NGO and How to Donate to Elderly
The Elderly form the skeleton of our society. It is with their experience and knowledge that the world has come this far. Whether it is the confines of a home or the society in general it is a known fact that society works on the footprints of the elderly.
In India the elderly are the mainstay of a family and it is in fact poignant to see many of the elderly still working to earn a living. These elderly do not have any means of surviving otherwise and it is only the contribution of certain concerned NGOs that has made life easier and better for some of the senior citizens in the country. Donating to these elderly is surely a good way of bringing back good ‘karma’ in our life.
Donate to Elderly
Donating to this segment of society is still the best way to acknowledge what we get in everyday life. These senior citizens have at times a home away from home which is popularly called the old age home. Project Colors who have taken it upon themselves to contribute to the everyday healthcare, shelter, clothing as well as food for these experienced hands.
Healthcare
This is perhaps a very important aspect of senior living. These elderly do not usually have a family to look after and the better off also would not mind getting a little help from society. The healthcare facilities of these elderly have to be regular, streamlined and functional. Donating for senior citizen’s better medical arrangements is one way the society could aid these elderly. For example, regular geriatric care is the essential element in the healthcare of senior citizens and it is good to see that this is one area where people can contribute and help.
Health Problems Like Cataract surgery
If we take an assessment of the senior citizens it is seen that three fourths of the seniors have problems related to the eye, the cataract operation being the prime one. Many seniors avoid operating for lack of funds. Donating to these surgeries would be one way we could channelise our social quotient and make things easy for them and make our life more fruitful. Our small step would help in aiding a bigger leap of eyesight for these old hands of our life.
Shelters for the Elderly
These days shelters for the elderly are becoming very common because most of the elderly are actually without a home. The elderly are regularly facing abandonment and the fact that their age is not permitting them to earn makes things more difficult for them. They are rendered homeless, they are lonely and in many cases they are bereft of food, shelter and clothing.
Need to be Loved
Then there are those elderly who do not have basic necessities. They live in areas which are socially unacceptable, they have fear of social rejection, and they also at times suffer from an incurable illness. Donating to elderly would surely give them a means of good living, good sanitation as well as a stable lifestyle.
Other Programs
In spite of continuous funding, the sad part is that enough is not enough. How much everyone contributes, the demand is always more than the supply. In spite of some good senior citizen charities the elderly should be given good care, love, support, warmth and financial aid. Donating to these causes has become the need of the hour. One cannot have enough of these contributions and it is in the hands of the youth and the young minds to make the life of the elderly better and safer.
Reasons for Lack of Donation
The elderly have always been the spine of the society. However as they age, it is seen that they become the neglected elements, knowingly or unknowingly. The reasons are not important but the conditions are. So society has to make it mandatory to make contributions to the elderly a regular feature of everyday life. One has to understand that contributions have to be voluntary and not forced, they have to be done with a willingness that would make the society a liveable place for them. Yet it is seen that people are not really very keen to donate for a set of seniors who they do not know.It is this thought process that has to be changed and it is this element that has to be eliminated from the minds of the general public.
Thus donating to elderly has to become a way of life and it is only through the regular efforts of NGOs like Project Colors that this is going to be possible.
