On the health front we give a lot of support to the disabled children. There are medical camps which periodically ensure that the children are checked for health disorders. Such camps also ensure that society has more healthy children. Health camps give the best to kids and make way for a healthier child population.
Take the case of Roopa, 4 years (name changed for privacy) in a small village in Karnataka. She was suffering from acute bronchitis and her parents did not know how to treat her as they neither had the know how or the awareness, as also the finance. One of the volunteers happened to come across this case and involved Project colors. The volunteers of Project colors took up this case, and with the kind help of Mr. Ranjit Rao ( name changed to protect identity) who arranged for the finance as an act of social responsibility, the child was taken to a hospital in Bangalore and was soon on the path to recovery. Today Roopa is a happy child attending school regularly thanks to the efforts of the organization and many other interested parties.
There are lot of success stories related to the functioning of Project colors. Riddhi , 5 years (name changed for privacy) is one example. This seven year old girl is a student of the second standard. She studies in St. Mary’s school and lives in Kandivili . She has her elder sister, living with her and she lives with her mother, and grandparents. Ridhi’s mother is working as a labourer. She does not earn enough to survive. Thus, Ridhi’s school fees was difficult for her mother to pay.
Riddhi lost her father few years ago. Ridhi’s mother is a single mother and has to take care of her daughter’s education and her family. She also has her grandparents to take care of. Thus, there is lot of pressure on her mother. Riddhi is one of the children whom Project colors has helped and made things easier. The organization reached out to Riddhi and are supporint her education expenses and are making sure that she would be educated enough and would be able to stand on her feet.
It is not only small children that the organization takes care of. It also has many other protégés like rakesh (name changed for privacy) . He is 18 years old and is a second year engineering student in a Diploma College. He lives in thane and has his younger brother and mother living with him. His father died in 2005 and his mother has been working as a maid servant since then.
His younger brother is a student of 8th standard and rakesh’s mother is the only earning member of the family. Project colors has helped rakesh by supproint his higher education expenses. Today rakesh is a happy person (he is not a child any more.. he is 18 years) with the organizations support and help. He aspires to do his Masters and serve the society.
Jayesh is a 12 year old boy (name changed for privacy), a student of St. Marys school Jayesh lives with his elder brother and mother in thane . He does not have his father living with him as he left the family some time back. Jayesh is physically challenged and has his mother as the only earning member and works as a maid servant. Project colors gave Jayesh the encouragement he needed through many counseling sessions and had a regular educational counselor talk to him. Jayesh gradually grew out of his insecurities and became a much more confident child.
He was also enrolled in a school that was near his house and his classmates were given training as to how to interact with him while he was in school. Very soon Jayesh had lot of friends and many more to help him out. Thus the organization ensured that Jayesh got the best way possible and today he is a happier person as he has the kind support and co-operation
